To all the Brazilians out there, keep your head up. You have a great team and play beautiful footbal. don’t let the Brazilian press tell you otherwise. But i also hope that this experience will be a lesson to the team.
1. Great individual stars don’t make a team. I think Parreira should have had more friendlys prior to the WC to have better team chemistry and try different schemes like the 4-5-1 he tried on Saturday.
2. Stop blaming your players for the loss. France did a great job at taking them out of the game one by one. You name them: Kaka, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu, and even Robinho and Adriano when they came on. if you notice, Brazil never had any tractions. they would have one or 2 touches before France defended and recuperated the ball. Give credit where it is due.
3. It is time Brazil start addind Man-Marking into their vocabulary/technique. It is the one thing that did them in in this game. France were putting 2 sometimes 3 people around every player. there was always a French defender around a brazilian with Veira coming in to double team. Brazil on the other hand gave free reign to marking Zidane and the midfield. The only player they were marking was Henry. But that was because of the Defense who is trained to do so. The miedfield on the other hand does not man-mark. they are trained to attack.
I too believed in the beginning that Parreira had the wrong formation 4-5-1 which Brazil is not accustomed to. I also tought that Ronaldino was in the wrong position. and Robinho and Adriano should have been in the game from the beginning. But now after having watched the game again, i don’t think it would have mattered. French goal was to kill the supply lines that was feeding the attacking midfield and forwards. Once they were able to do that, they turned the tables on Brazil and were able to attack more and control the game from beginning to end. It really does not matter if Brazil had a 4-4-2 formation, if Ronaldo, Adriano, Robinho or Pele were on the field. Or even if Ronaldinho was playing the best game of his life. The fact is, the brazilian attacking machine never saw the ball to really get going in the game. that really threw them off.
France played a better tactical game. I hope Brazil learns of their weakness and build from that.
